Michelin's R&D projects in China began 15 years ago. In order to better meet the needs of Chinese customers for high-performance, environmentally-friendly tires , Michelin decided in 2012 to further strengthen its investment in R&D. Today, Michelin China has three research and development organizations in Shanghai, more than 200 outstanding and passionate R&D personnel, committed to the use of better raw materials, advanced technology, first-class equipment, and optimized R&D process for expanding China. Market support. Two-thirds of the chemical raw materials selected by Michelin worldwide are sent to the R&D center for testing and verification. At the same time, it will also focus on a series of research and development including prototype tire performance analysis and passenger car tire design to meet the Chinese users' habits and expectations.

The expansion of the Michelin China R&D Center further highlights one of Michelin's core values: “respect for the environment”. As the inventor of green tire technology, Michelin was the first company to introduce green tires into China. Since 2003, most tires sold in the Chinese market have adopted green tire technology. This energy-saving product solution helps reduce energy consumption during cargo transportation, thus achieving a more environmental-friendly goal.

Michelin is not only committed to the research and development of innovative products, but also through its unremitting efforts to gather more partners and the power of stakeholders to jointly achieve a more environmentally sustainable transport development. As early as 1998, when Michelin founded the "Michelin Bibden Challenge", it focused on advancing and demonstrating various technologies. Since its development, it has gradually become a forward-looking thinking and action think tank in the sustainable field. The "Michelin Bibden Challenge" held in Chengdu, China in 2014 is based on the same mission, centering on the theme of "innovating road traffic that promotes economic growth and optimizing the quality of urban life". At the same time, this grand event will also offer a special innovation for the entire industry - "The Michelin Bibiden Challenge Green Paper."

As an important milestone in the vigorous development of the Chinese market, the opening of the R&D center's new site has laid a solid foundation for Michelin to carry out innovative technologies and concepts, which will surely promote the further development of the industry and future mobility.
