Analysis of the Problems and Strategies in the Development of Fastener Industry

As the largest manufacturing country of fasteners, our metal fastener production enterprises have experienced hardships for many years. Since joining the WTO in 2008, we have been frustrated overseas and have suffered. Although we have small achievements, we still cannot get rid of them. In the dilemma of “indigestion” and “outside competition”, the key issue is the international standardization strategy.

Specifically speaking, the first is the lack of complete hardware fastener industry standards, and the second is that the hardware fastener industry, which is an important component of the accessory parts industry, and even the positioning of the company itself are not accurate enough. This is where our hardware fastener industry has always been unable to break through international barriers, rush out of the world, and the crux of the war. It is also our biggest obstacle to losing to foreign brands.

International hardware fastener products have two sets of relatively independent standard systems: metric standards and imperial standards. The metric system is the European standard system, and is mainly based on the international ISO, European Community EN standards and French DIN standards. The American Standard, the American Standard System, is based on ASTM, the Society of Automotive Engineers' SAE Standard, and the IFI Standard of the American Fastener Technology Association (the British standard is based on ASTM and SAE).

There is a deviation in the positioning of domestic fasteners. The position of domestic hardware fastener companies has not been very clear about their positioning, blind production, and lack of matching and cooperation with the host companies. It can be said that the vast majority of domestic fastener companies' products are only produced in batches according to a unified standard. They do not care whether their products can meet the matching requirements of the mainframe products on the market. They are blindly pursuing their own factory volume, and thus tightening. The piece became a "universal card" fastener, but it was difficult to guarantee the mechanical stability of the host application.

Compared with foreign branded products, what we lack is "dedicated" "dedication." When it comes to this issue, I very much agree with the OEM development model mentioned by Mr. Wang Changjiang, an expert in the engineering machinery industry. This concept is in the hardware fastener industry. The same applies to the development, that is, the aforementioned hardware fastener production companies need to be in partnership with the host company, which can be one-on-one or even one-to-many.

I think that if we want our fastener industry to compete in international battlefields and battle the battlefield, first of all, "grass and grass" first, that is, the improvement of industry standards, and take advantage of alliances with the host companies, plus their own technical quality to win their own piece of country.

There is a wide gap between the standards of the industry's products and domestic comparisons with foreign countries. It is not difficult to find that there is a big gap between the two. As far as the material standards for hardware fasteners are concerned, domestic product standards generally do not specify specific material steel grades and only require the chemical composition requirements for mechanical performance grades, compared to individual US standards such as ASTM standards. Specific material steel types are specified. Because there is no corresponding steel grade in China, and it cannot be accurately docked with international standards, it will naturally bring certain difficulties to the export. Although some domestic enterprises have already begun to realize this, they have developed new steel grades stipulated in the foreign fastener standards. However, this is only a small step in the progress, and international standards have yet to be promoted and improved throughout the industry.
