Why is the number of cars generated in China often questioned?

Although the figures generated around Chinese cars are often questioned, they are still the most valuable information we can use to measure Chinese cars. Last week, several major events in Chinese cars were more or less digital-related.

Last week's most inspiring figures came from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. The figures show that in 2005, the total size of China's auto market was nearly 5.92 million, surpassing Japan's, and ranking second in the world. It is expected that in 2006, China's auto will maintain a growth of 10% to 15%.

In addition, it is even more gratifying that Chery and Geely, representatives of the two newly-owned independent branded car companies, have also entered the top ten of Chinese auto companies. From the standpoint of self-owned brands, in the first 11 months of 2005, the sales volume of self-owned brand auto companies increased by 40.3%, which was nearly twice the increase in sales volume of the joint ventures by 21.3%.

SAIC Motor is also pleased with its 2005 sales figures. Although according to the statistics of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, SAIC ranked second with sales of 917,500 vehicles. However, according to SAIC's own statistics, in 2005, SAIC Motor's overall sales volume at home and abroad exceeded 1.05 million, making it the largest domestic automobile company. Of course, SAIC's statistics include sales of its 140,000 Korean Ssangyong Motor Company, which it absolutely controls.

FAW-Volkswagen's figures are not entirely from sales. Although in 2005, FAW-Volkswagen's Audi brand grew 8.4%, but such figures are not worthy of such companies to show off FAW-Volkswagen. Last week, FAW-Volkswagen repeatedly emphasized another figure, that is, in its new car sagitar production, the laser welds completed by the robot reached 33 meters long. In today's car manufacturing, the laser welding length of a robot seems to have become synonymous with modern production. FAW-Volkswagen stressed that Sagitar's laser welding process is actually paving the way for the establishment of Sagitar's "German high-performance car."

FAW Toyota emphasizes its 2006 sales target. According to the plan, this year, FAW Toyota will challenge the annual production of 210,000 vehicles. If completed, FAW Toyota will become the fastest-selling car company in China with 200,000 sales.

BMW people are also happy for sales figures. In 2005, this high-end luxury car manufacturer achieved a 9.9% growth in the world, of which the BMW brand increased by 10.1%, which surpassed that of Mercedes-Benz and became the largest premium luxury car brand sold last year.

However, in this regard, Stuttgart's Dai Ke Group will not feel too uncomfortable, even though the Mercedes-Benz brand in slow growth in 2005, but with the growth of brands such as Chrysler, Deck Group historically achieved an annual output of 400 cars last year 10,000 cars. Also creating a sales record is the German Volkswagen AG, which sold 5.24 million vehicles in 2005.

Of course, the numbers announced last week are not all good news either. Last week, U.S. General Motors announced that prices for 57 models sold in North America were reduced by an average of 1,300 U.S. dollars. For GM and other US auto companies, the start of 2006 is destined to be a price year this year.
