The two-day Second China Beijing International Desulfurization Technology and Trade Expo and Desulphurization, Environmental Protection and Recycling Economic Summit Forum was held on November 28-29, 2007 at the China International Trade Center in Beijing. The forum and corporate trade exhibitions were combined. Government officials, companies, academics, and environmentalists exchanged ideas on policies, science and technology, and talents.
Zhao Hualin, deputy director of the Pollution Control Department of the State Environmental Protection Administration, said that the forum was held against the backdrop of the severe situation facing China's environmental protection, the country's newly promulgated relevant policies and market-oriented challenges. According to the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", China's sulfur dioxide emissions in 2010 will have to be reduced by 10% on the basis of 2005, and sulfur dioxide emissions will be reduced by 6 million tons. “At present, China is in a period of high environmental accidents, the world’s emissions of chemical oxygen demand are the highest, and economic growth is fast. To achieve this goal is an important task for local governments in the future.â€
Zhao Hualin also said that effectively doing a good job of desulphurization is China's current priority in environmental pollution control. To achieve the set goals, the government and the enterprise must work together. At present, China has revised nine laws and regulations, including the "Atmospheric Law," and strengthened government responsibilities. This is consistent with the concept of a scientific development concept established by China.
In the next five years, China will become the world's largest market for flue gas desulfurization. For domestic and foreign desulfurization and environmental protection companies is an unprecedented market opportunity. The products of this exhibition include desulfurization technology and equipment for chemical refinery gas desulfurization, natural gas desulfurization, petroleum, diesel, kerosene and other desulfurization technologies and equipment. A total of more than 100 exhibitors participated in the exhibition. The participation of international companies including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy will also provide a platform for domestic companies to learn advanced foreign environmental protection technologies and strengthen cooperation between enterprises.
