China Power Engineering Consultants Group Inc. (CPECC) recently signed an agreement with the United States General Electric and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency on the integrated coal gasification unit combined cycle power generation and carbon capture and storage technology.
Under the agreement, the U.S. Trade Development Agency will provide funds to fund and promote the feasibility of commercial scale research. In the early stages of the study, the cost and performance of the power plant design will be evaluated.
The integrated coal gasification combined cycle power generation and carbon capture and storage technologies have been commercially demonstrated and need extensive application before they can use local abundant coal resources for low-cost power generation while significantly reducing global carbon dioxide emissions. The Chinese and U.S. governments and enterprises will jointly shoulder this responsibility and accelerate the implementation of commercialization.
