US Steel Imports Declined by 16.7% in November 2013
China National Chemical Machinery Network News: According to the data of the American Iron and Steel Association, in November 2013, US steel imports fell by 16.7% from the previous month, mainly due to the increase of hot rolling capacity in domestic industries and semi-finished steel used in petroleum pipes.
In the first 11 months of 2013, US imports of steel fell by 4.4% year-on-year, and it is expected that demand will increase in early 2014.
In November, the US imported 2.853 million tons of steel, a decrease of 16.7% from the previous period and a year-on-year decrease of 4.9%; the total amount of steel imports in the first 11 months was 29.635 million tons.
From the perspective of importing countries, steel imports from Japan, Canada, Russia, China, Australia, South Africa, and Ukraine increased in the same period last year, especially from Ukraine, where imports increased by more than 600%.
In the first 11 months, steel imports from Brazil, Mexico, and China increased, while imports from other countries decreased. Among them, steel imports from China increased by 18.3%, second only to Mexico's 19.3% increase.
