The first decoding of Venus's atmospheric airwaves
A new study has discovered the nature of Venus' atmospheric waves. Venus' atmosphere rotates 60 times faster than its surface. This phenomenon is called superrotation and there is no satisfactory explanation at present. Venus is slow to rotate and it takes about 243 land days to complete one rotation.
Scientists have discovered that some of the waves in the atmosphere of Venus, such as sound waves or gravity waves, have the same attributes on Earth, however, there are many other types of waves that do not exist on Earth. This study can classify six different types of waves and predict wave characteristics. The conclusions of the study may apply to many other stars around the planet, such as Saturn's largest satellite Titan, may also show superrotation based on available data.
