In the cable plastic insulation material in Gabark ball can make the transmission capacity increased by 26%

"The addition of buckyballs to the cable's plastic insulation increases cable transmission capacity by up to 26%." Recently, Sweden made this major achievement in plastic cable research.

Buck Ball Aka C60, full name Buckminster fullerene, contains 60 carbon atoms, arranged in a soccer ball shape. Buck Ball has a unique electronic quality, but it has not yet been used on a large scale in the industry.

The main obstacle to increasing the operating voltage of high voltage cables is the electrical strength of the insulation. Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology and Nordic Chemistry in Sweden have found that Buckyballs trap electrons to prevent electrons from damaging other molecules in the insulation. Adding buckyballs to high-voltage cable insulation increases transmission capacity by up to 26% while keeping the insulation intact.

Kristin Mueller, a researcher at Chalmers Polytechnic University, said the application of this technology will greatly enhance the power sector. Reducing energy loss in transmission is one of the most important factors in the future energy system. Two other important factors are renewable energy development and energy storage technologies. Researchers are testing the Buck ball technology in high-voltage AC cables and DC cables.
