The reporter learned from the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that a research team led by Prof. Yang Ke cooperated with China Science and Technology Group and Taigang Group and successfully produced a 40-ton-scale 304 type copper-containing antimicrobial stainless steel sheet. The success of trial production of industrial-scale antibacterial stainless steels indicates that China has already had the ability to promote and apply antibacterial stainless steel materials on a large scale.
It is understood that the antibacterial stainless steel sheet produced by this cooperation has a width of 1,200 mm and has different thicknesses such as 2.5 mm, 1.0 mm, 0.8 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.4 mm. On the basis of meeting the conventional mechanical properties, this batch of plates has excellent antibacterial properties through the testing of the antibacterial properties of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The test results of the China Food and Drug Testing Institute also show that the plate meets the requirements of the national safety scope in terms of the release of harmful metal ions, human toxicity such as cytotoxicity.
Yang Ke team developed the first series of antibacterial stainless steel materials for austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, and double-equivalent structures in China. They added appropriate amounts of antibacterial metals such as copper (Cu) and silver to existing stainless steel materials. (Ag) and other elements, so that the stainless steel as a whole to produce a strong, broad-spectrum and long-lasting antibacterial function, this new type of stainless steel can be used as structural materials and decorative landscaping materials, but also has a bactericidal or antibacterial self-cleaning new material.
At present, many domestic investors and related companies have shown great interest in the further product development and application of antibacterial stainless steel.
